Warren Building/ Franco-Texan Land Co.

Add to plan Remove from plan

(after 1889)
One of the older buildings on the Square, it is most likely the first commercial building to use brick for a store front. Henry Warren, an early owner who operated a freight line out of the building, was killed in an Indian massacre. The building then became the office for the Franco-Texan Land Company, an enterprise encouraging French settlers to come to Texas. Samuel W. T. Lanham, Texas Governor, 1 9 0 3 - 1 9 0 7 , practiced law on the second floor.
