S. W. T. Lanham was the original owner of this house which has been enlarged numerous times. As a District Attorney, Lanham successfully prosecuted Indian Chiefs Satanta, Satank and Big Tree for murder. Samuel Lanham was the last Confederate veteran to serve as Governor of Texas, 1903–1907. He retired from government service and lived in this house until his death in 1908.
