Bowden Building

Add to plan Remove from plan

(c. 1900)
The Lowe-Carter Hardware Company long conducted business in this majestic, four story red brick building. W. H. Bowden purchased the building for use as a department store in 1930. Included in the inventory of the “old-timey family store” were harnesses, buggy racks and thousands of pairs of high-button shoes. It is rumored that the oldest elevator in Texas west of Fort Worth was located in this building. The transport was very rickety but operational right up to the time the building burned in 1980. The site is now used for parking
