(1894) Local merchant J. D. Baker commissioned the construction of this house. Attorney Preston Martin, purchased the house, stables and acreage in 1907. A second story was added. Preston’s youngest daughter, Mary, became a Broadway star known for her role as Peter Pan. Mary was born in “Papa’s Library,” a downstairs front room which opened on two sides to the pillared porch. Mr. Martin sold the home in 1924 and moved his family to 314 West Oak.
